5 REASONS TO DO CAT/COW FLOW EVERYDAY

Updated: Aug 21, 2021

The Cat/Cow Flow. You just got to love them!

A favourite among many in the fitness, yoga and physical rehabilitation world, this spinal exercise is simple and offers many great benefits to our mind and body.

According to Dr. Roger Sperry, Nobel Prize recipient for brain research, “90% of the stimulation and nutrition to the brain is generated by the movement of the spine. The more mechanically distorted a person is, the less energy available for thinking, metabolism and healing.”

This flow is often being used as a warming-up exercise and to improve mobility and flexibility of the spine. Combining with correct breathing method, it improves the health of our Lymphatic and Endocrine System through stimulation of the neck, chests, abdominal and pelvic regions, where most lymphatic nodes are clustered and glands are located.

From our energy body point of view, this exercise activates our nadis and potentially balances the chakras.

Mapped this out for my presentation at Mahsa University, Malaysia last year as a co-presenter with Ms. Shweta Sekhon (Miss Universe Malaysia 2019).

Picture above shows locations of glands, lymph node clusters, the 3 main nadis and 7 chakras along the spine, at the pelvis and head where Cat/Cow exercise is able to stimulate.

In summary, here are the 5 main reasons why you should do Cat/Cow as a daily practice.

1. Improve mobility and flexibility of the spine;

2. Improves health of lymphatic and endocrine systems;

3. activate the nadis and chakras

4. improves mental energy and concentration.

5. improves breathing and induces relaxation

I have personally experienced the benefits of Cat/Cow exercise throughout my pregnancy, post-natal period, after a long flight and when I have a general feeling of sluggishness from multiple stress factors. 😌
